What is the point?

I've thought about the point of things for a long time. Amateur moral philosophizing (philosophising for the UKians) is very common, too common really; everyone has an idea about how things should be, and yet, nothing works anywhere near as well as it should. Or, maybe not 'nothing'. Perhaps I'll touch on some positives at some point too, but the main point of this rambling is to point out some really simple negatives, things that I think should just not be the way they currently are. I hope to present the ideas in really simple and scaled-down ways that will not confuse the main issues. My writing will also almost always show my bias toward altruism. I'm not sure if I'm entirely altruistic, I'm sure I have some very selfish moments, but I like to think I'm close.

That's one thing I hope this writing will accomplish: am I actually altruistic and is altruism the important thing I think it is or is it even important at all? Am I entirely flaky, and therefore deluded, about human nature? Is it up to any of us, ever, to tell others how to think or behave? And if it is 'up to us' (what does that mean anyway?) what can we fairly expect to happen? You reader-types can let me know what you think if you want to...

About the title. It's obviously debatable, but debate is the point. I don't expect everyone, or even necessarily anyone, to agree with anything I say, but I hope to make the points well enough that any debate will be constructive and reasonable. YELLING and threats are ok with me too though if anyone reading this feels the need.

These ideas are probably not going to be new. I'm not going to come up with too many arguments that someone else, somewhere, hasn't said in a more organized, passionate and complete way, but I'm going to give it a go, for a while anyway, and see what happens...

My sister put this idea in my head by suggesting that I use the title "bobservations" for a blog. I don't love that title, it has a bit too much conceit for me maybe (although I do, one day, want to curate a music festival called bobapalooza), but I think it's about time that I played less online poker...
